The Juntetsu Swivel Offset is a Japanese VG-10 hair cutting scissor with a rotating swivel thumb ring, a hand-honed convex edge, and a hand-adjustable tension dial. It is available in 5.5, 6.0 and 6.5 inch sizes for right-handed cutting.
The Swivel Offset is built for stylists who spend long days in the chair and want to take the load off the thumb, wrist and shoulder. The rotating thumb ring is the heart of the design, and it changes how the whole arm sits while you cut.
On a fixed handle the thumb has to follow the blade, which often pushes the elbow up and rotates the wrist over the course of a cut. The swivel thumb ring rotates freely, so the thumb stays in a neutral position while the blades change angle. That lets you keep the elbow low and the wrist straight, the posture most likely to reduce strain over a full day. It suits over-direction, palm-to-palm cutting and detailed work where the hand angle changes constantly.
VG-10 is a Japanese high-carbon stainless steel valued for edge retention and corrosion resistance, hardened here to around 60-61 HRC. The blade carries a powerful profile with a hand-honed convex (hamaguri) edge, which cuts cleanly through wet or dry hair and holds a crisp point for slice cutting, slide cutting and point cutting.
The tension dial adjusts by hand without a key, so you can fine-tune the feel at the chair and reset it whenever it drifts. Correct tension is what keeps a convex edge cutting cleanly rather than folding or pushing hair.
The 5.5 inch suits precision and detail work and smaller hands. The 6.0 inch is the all-round choice for most salon cutting. The 6.5 inch gives extra reach and leverage for scissor-over-comb and barbering.
What is a swivel handle and who is it for?
The thumb ring rotates so your thumb can stay relaxed while the blade angle changes. It suits stylists who cut for long hours or who want to keep the elbow low and the wrist neutral to reduce strain.
Is this scissor available for left-handed stylists?
This model is built as a right-handed scissor. If you need a true left-handed pair, contact our team before ordering and we will let you know the current options.
What hair types and techniques does it suit?
It handles all hair types and is well suited to slice cutting, slide cutting, point cutting and over-direction work.
How do I care for a convex edge?
Wipe the blades clean and dry after each client and add a drop of scissor oil at the pivot regularly. Convex edges should only be sharpened by a sharpener trained on convex blades, never on a flat-hone service.
Where is it made?
The Swivel Offset is made in Japan from Japanese VG-10 steel.
