Hairdressing Courses

An apprenticeship in hairdressing is necessary to become a professional hairdresser. You don't need much to start your apprenticeship. You don't need to be older than 16 or have at least completed Year 10 Literacy. Apprenticeships combine formal study with practical on-the job training.

This means that not only will you learn the trade, but it also allows you to practice your technical skills in an actual work environment. An apprenticeship can be completed by a registered training organisation (RTO). However, the practical element will be completed by a host employer that is either self-sourced or provided by the education provider.

These practical hours will allow you to become a trainee hairdresser. You'll be refining and learning your hairdressing skills in these hours.

Assessments for an apprenticeship are hands-on, written assignments, tests, and team projects. Many students decide to take on a full-time job, working for 3-4 days per week. This allows them to become a hairdresser within a year. You can also find courses for specific types such as apprenticeships in barbering.

If you are unsure about hairdressing but want to work in the beauty business, you can also take a Diploma in Beauty Therapy or Certificate III in Beauty Treatment. You will learn about massage, facials and other techniques.
